Welcome to the UTEP Writing Center 

Welcome to University Writing Center’s redesigned website. The new site has been created with two goals in mind. First, to offer UTEP students the opportunity to find resources and assistance on their own, from anywhere, at any time. Our Writing Help Online section provides answers to your most common questions and is continually updated with new information. Second, to offer live synchronous online writing consultations. Online writing consultations assist students from how to begin writing a paper to formatting and citation assistance. Consultants are available online to assist students with any writing needs at any stage of the process. Just as in our physical space, we offer all UTEP students, in any discipline, for any type of writing, an opportunity to collaborate with our talented team of consultants in refining their writing skills and offer resources for students.

How we help



Hey, Miners!

At the Writing Center, we want to help you become independent writers—here’s how we do it: 

We help students at any point in their writing process and in any discipline. If you have pre-writing concerns like difficulties with brainstorming and outlining, we work with you to narrow down your ideas. And sometimes you just need a second opinion, so we are happy to make suggestions.

Or if you already have your paper, and you are struggling with the grammatical aspect of it, we collaborate with you so you can learn new writing techniques. We understand that sometimes following a format or citation can be difficult, that is why we offer resources during sessions so you can feel confident when you do it on your own.

Our mission is to help students learn how to apply these techniques with any writing and setting.

Synchronous Sessions are live one-on-one with a UWC Consultant. We use a combination of Blackboard Collaborate ULTRA and SharePoint/One Drive to conduct the live sessions.  For instructions on how use this system please click here.

The Writing Mine


About

The University Writing Center first introduced “The Writing Mine” in 2022 to give a space to our writing center community to write about their experiences and own knowledge about writing. 
All posts are written by members of our writing center staff, who range from undergraduates in a variety of fields and our graduate students who are working in fields of English Literature, Creative writing and finally Rhetoric and Writing Studies. 
Our posts have a variety of topics that discuss writing tips or writing “takes” on a specific topic or opinion. Some of our pieces focus on being informative while others are opinion pieces from our writing staff.
